Children and infants are particularly sensitive to their environments and caregivers. It can be detrimental to a newly developing nervous system to be in a stressful environment for any length of time, or around caregivers who are stressed or depressed. It is very important to reach out for help and support immediately.

Infants and children must depend on their gut instincts, thus a baby will respond when a parent or caregiver is stressed. Children can tell when someone is lying or if their parents are faking their love for each other. This is felt in the organs (what is believed to be our primitive brain) and what we refer to as gut instincts. Often sore stomachs are the first sign that something may be wrong.

I can also assist families and households to become toxin free.

Does your child have any discomfort or problems with ingestion, digestion or excretion? Does your child often complain about a sore stomach?

Other early signs of stress in children can be their inability to sleep or even to calm down to be able to fall asleep. Often parents believe that it is normal for a child or infant to be a good sleeper but this does not have to be the case. It is extremely important to be able to sleep even when we are young and growing.

Is your child an excellent sleeper or do they struggle to sleep? Does your child suffer from anxiety? Are they fearful? How would you describe your child emotionally? How do they respond to change or stress? Does your child have the ability to read and understand facial expressions and social cues?

I also have a lot of experience working with disorders that are labeled ‘ADHD’, ‘Autism Spectrum Disorder’, ‘Oppositional Defiant Disorder’ and ‘Conduct Disorder’. These disorders diminish quality of life, often reduce academic achievement, and compromise motor skills. With an increase in disruptive behaviours, these disorders come with profound challenges for the welfare of their parents, caregivers and teachers, not to mention the child who is living with the disorder.

I believe the traditional medical system is, in many ways, shortsighted, and that too many children and adolescents are being wrongfully diagnosed with these disorders. When we work together you and/or your child will experience exercises to help you feel more focused, present, and calm. My work is based on my 5+ years working privately as a nervous system specialist trained in Somatic Experiencing and the Feldenkrais method. My goal is to help all my clients live without medication.

Eating disorders are on the rise. Often they are an indication of the level of parental control in a family, with a child feeling that by not eating is the only way for them to gain some control back from their parents.

Does your teenager refuse to eat? Are you in an ongoing gridlock with your son or daughter over food?

This is a serious issue and can result in hospitalization. In these circumstances, one parent or caregiver must attend sessions alongside the affected child. It has been proven that unhealthy emotional states of parents will increase children’s chance of illnesses. A child’s recovery will be expedited when their parent or caregiver commits to sessions to improve their own health and wellbeing.
